NOTE : Choosing the import type on the preferences menu alters the option you see on the File > Convert menu, heres how to do t.

1) Open iTunes Preferences.
Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
2) Click the General button, then click the Import Settings button in the lower section of the window.

Trouble syncing iTunes Videos

by Eoghan Uttley
by Eoghan Uttley

One of the main reason I purchased my iPod Touch was to watch videos on the train on the way to work. And this has been work out great for me. One of the small problems I had was there seemed to be certain show that it didn’t want to sync properly.

I have the TV Shows set to sync the “5 least recent unwatched”, and this works OK for most TV shows that I add to iTunes myself. However for one particular show, it seemed to be choosing episode 10 onwards, instead of episode 1 onwards. I couldn’t for the life of me work out why. All the files had the same date, the same time. There was no reason.

Then I found The Complete Guide to Managing iTunes Videos at the iLounge.

In their guide I found that “when dealing with the various ‘recent’ settings, iTunes bases this on the date the episode was added to iTunes, not on the episode number, episode ID, or release date.”

After reading that I removed all the episodes from my library, added them again all at once, and tried sync’ing again.

It works!

Thank you iLounge.

iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode

I had a weird problem with my wife’s iPod recently. When I connected it I got and error saying “iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode – Use iTunes to restore” but if I logged into the PC as myself it worked fine.

It turns out that it was a drive mapping problem. My wife had a network drive connect to E: and the iPod was trying to use the same letter. I guess I don’t have that letter mapped when i log on. I simply remapped the drive and it started working OK.

TuneUp Your Music Collection

I found a program the other day called TuneUp that fixes all the song information (track title, album title & album art) for all your music in iTunes. I only tried the free 100 song version as I have already done most of my by hand now. But for the few albums I did do, it seemed to work reasonably well.

Although I didn’t get one album wrong. Unfortnatuly I didn’t realise this until after I had let iTunes change the album title. Oh well.
